このところ忙しくて、コンサートや芝居、美術館めぐりなどに行けなかったのですか、ヨッタさんの来日がきっかけとなり、いろいろ楽しむことができました。

　歌舞伎や日本の工芸美術の鑑賞、生け花のお稽古やお茶会などを通して日本の文化や歴史を紹介することは、自分自身にとっても勉強になり、楽しいひと時でした。何より、彼女にそれらのことに興味を持って接してもらえたことが、こんなにうれしいとは思いもよらないことでした。同じことを、私だけでなく歌舞伎やお茶会、生け花を指導してくださった方々すべてが口を揃えて言っています。

　異なる文化や芸術への旺盛な関心や興味が、良好な関係を築くための絶大な力になることは、よく言われることですが、ヨッタさんの日本文化体験の様子を間近に見て、そのことを実感しました。

　私はまだ、ポートフィリップ市には行ったことがありませんが、様々な歴史・文化を持った人々が共生するまちと聞いています。そこに息づく多様な文化を、みずみずしい好奇心で受け止められるよう、ヨッタさんを見習って心と頭を柔らかくして、いつか訪れてみたいと思います。

In mid 2005 I was too busy to go to concerts or the theatre, or visit galleries, but thanks to the exchange staff member Yiota there was lots for me to enjoy.

Introducing Japanese culture and history through Kabuki, arts and crafts, ikebana, the tea ceremony and so on was a lot of fun, and an educational experience for me aswell. I had no idea that I would be as happy as I was when Yiota showed an interest in and came into contact with these aspects of Japanese culture. Not only me, but all of the people who instructed Yiota in kabuki-watching, tea ceremony and ikebana have expressed their joy also.

It is often said that an avid interest in other cultures and arts is a great foundation for building good relationships, but I really felt this myself as I watched Yiota experience Japanese culture

Although i've not yet travelled to Port Phillip, i've heard that it is a place where people of different historical and cultural backgrounds live together. I'd likse to learn from Yiota and be able to take in the diverse culture of Port Phillip with a fresh curiosity when i visit someday.
